The relationship between the artist and the dj goes all the way back to the beginning of the hip hop period. Nowadays we have gotten out of touch with one another. One side could say lack of quality music, and the other side could say how would you know its quality if you never played it. Whatever the reason may be honestly the system is currently broken. We have outstanding DJs in South Carolina, some with very impressive resume’s and tenure in their respective markets. Years ago you could count on one hand who rapped and couldn’t find anyone who was singing seriously. Well now things have changed and we have both and we have a lot of them. Not saying they all are ready for the limelight, but we have a solid foundation in our state. If we don’t develop a system where we are putting artists on then we’ll continue to see our out of state friends and fellow industry ppl in the videos. Its time to see Carolina on the screen represented properly. I apologize if I offend anyone, that is not the point of this read. This is tough love I am not perfect and I bullshit around on some things its life so we work at it.
PART 1 CIRCULATION OF MONEY
Everyone wants to be paid point blank period. Money’s money it’s understandable so let me show you how you get money. Artists create a hot record, mix it, and get the sound quality up to the level of your competition. If you want a record deal Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane, T.I., etc all become your competitors. You have to give the DJ something to work with. When they blend in your single in the club if the quality is not up to par it stands out as being Local. But if your quality is good then you blend in and after 5-10 spins your song starts to become familiar in the club. Then do your part get singles and put in the hands of the drunk patrons after the club. This is that mind control theory get em while they drunk but you get the picture. DJ’s give the Artists the same love you give Waka Flacka & all this other out of town shit that we’ve made the standard for our state. We need Carolina to know they have superstars of their own right in they own backyard. If DJ’s play the record with that kind of dedication then these songs become performable for small appearance fees ($500-$1000) DJ’s take 30% cut and then the Artists now are making money performing in various clubs across the state. This now gives the Artists the budgets they need to press up material and hit the streets. Now they can spend money back with the DJ’s on mixtapes and commercials to promote mixtapes. Put the Mixtapes in mom & pops, the small few that still exist, as well as do distribution deals and get in the larger stores as well. This creates an influx of money into the state of South Carolina. Club owners benefit more people coming to the club because SC has created heroes of their own. More bottles are purchased because these independent rap niggas are getting money now. Gucci Mane, Gorilla Zoe, Yung LA, OJ Da Juiceman I can go on forever get heavy rotation in their own state. They do shows all over Georgia. This can be artists in South Carolina all over South Carolina getting money and properly representing the state. THE CHOICE IS ON YOU ALL: DJ’S & ARTISTS!
