Masters Predictions

The Masters, one of the best sports weekend of the year is here. I think I have watched the last 10 or 11 Masters tournaments and probably the last five or six with actual interest. Like a lot of kids in their younger years, I hated watching golf, but as the years goes on, I feel it's one of the most relaxing things to watch on Sunday afternoon. I have my top five for Augusta, and I would love to hear what you think in the comments section.

1.) Bubba Watson: I feel like the course plays well for Bubba. He is a big hitter, and Augusta appeals to left-handed golfers. The one thing I worry with Watson is he will be too aggressive and end up costing himself a chance to be in the mix at the very end. If Watson doesn't win the Green Jacket, he will win one of the other majors this year.

2.) Matt Kuchar: Last year was Kucher's breakout year in terms of playing great golf throughout the year. He is a steady player who doesn't seem to get bothered by things around him. Kuchar has been strong this season having six top 10 finishes out of 8 tournaments he has competed in. Don't be surprised if Kuchar plays in the final group on Sunday.

3.) Luke Donald: In my opinion, this is one of the best golfers without a major. Donald has one win on the year at Accenture and has played good golf in his limited action here in the United States. Donald has the stink of winning the Par 3 Challenge therefore do not bet a bunch of money on Donald since no one has won after winning the Par 3.

4.) Phil Mickelson: People are all on Lefty's bandwagon because he played his ass off in Houston last week. But let's be honest, that course is easy for a guy with the golf caliber like Mickelson.  The Masters does play to his strengths, but he has been fairly inconsistent all year. Only three top tens in eight tournaments, so look for Lefty to be on the leaderboard, but not winning it.

5.) Dustin Johnson: Some feel this is the sexy pick. I think I am doing it so my roommate Dr. Dan doesn't harass me for not having DJ on my list. Johnson is a strong hitter, and when he gets on a role, look out. He is second in birdie average this season and 20th in greens in regulation.  Johnson will be at the top of the leaderboard sometime this weekend.

Notice no Tiger Woods.  It pains me that I have to do it, but I cannot see Tiger put a full weekend of golf together. But the one thing that plays in Tiger's favor is everyone is discounting him this week.  Ian Poulter said he wouldn't finish in the top five, and the Orlando Sentinel called him irrelevant.  Hopefully, he proves all those people wrong this weekend.
