Campers began arriving throughout the day Friday, while racecar drivers and their crews, track officials and speedway employees worked as efficiently as a well-oiled machine to prepare for this weekend's 40th Annual CARQUEST Tech-Net Spring Sizzler.
As Stafford Speedway prepares to let the green flag fly, race fans took advantage of the day's "free admission" to anxiously watch the Whelen All-American Series warm-ups.
Excitement will certainly mount throughout today, as folks soak in the familiar sounds of auto racing, which can be heard throughout town.
"The entire weekend is fun time spent with my family, watching my nephews Kyle and Cory Casagrande doing something the love. This year is especially exciting as Cory starts his season as a rookie in the limited Late Models," said Mandy Fisher, who is camped at the speedway this year for the first time. "The Arutes make this a great weekend, it's mellow and fun, and we're happy to see the sunshine."
The grandstands will open at 10 a.m. Saturday, giving fans a chance to watch warm-ups and heats, followed by the day's feature events (a full schedule of warm-ups and Saturday's feature events for the SK Modifieds, Late Models, SK Light Modifieds, Limited Late Models and Dare Stock can be found ). Gates open at 10 a.m. on Sunday, as well, with the 200-lap Tech-Net Spring Sizzler starting at approximately 3 p.m.
