So as I was perusing the report on ESPN.com today about Kailee Wong departing the Texans and possibly retiring, one fact that John Clayton mentioned leapt off of the page at me:
"Wong's 15 sacks in Houston are a team record"
Now taking into consideration the fact that Wong has been with the Texans for all five seasons of their existence, this is one abysmal team record. And perhaps it almost (not quite) explains why the Texans thought that taking a pass rushing specialist in Mario Williams with the top pick last year was a better option than taking Reggie Bush or Vince Young. This story piqued my curiousity a bit, so without further ado, here are a few fast facts about the Texans and sacks:
-The team record for most sacks by an individual in a single season was set in their innagural campaign of 2002, when Jeff Posey posted 8 sacks.
-Their best team sack total was 37, during the 2005 season.
-Since the team's inception in 2002, there have been 9 instances of a single player in the NFL having 15 or more sacks in a season.
